These fellowships recognize lifetime achievement, artistic excellence and contributions to the traditional arts heritage of the United States. Carter, 82, is the daughter of A.P. and Sara Carter who along w/ Sara’s cousin, Maybelle, made up the original Carter Family.

The small city of Bristol in eastern Tennessee seems an unlikely location for the launch of one of the most legendary music publishing firms. It was there, however, in August 1927, that Ralph Peer (1892 - 1960) helped launch the modern country music industry when he supervised, for Victor Records, the first recordings by future superstars Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family.
