Alicastro
"I was born with eyes closed listening to my heartbeat from my mother’s womb... There, without knowing it, I discovered that I would be born and woud die for music..."
With this short poem Alicastro announces to the world that the new generation of Latin artists has arrived.
His music: A fresh look at rock/pop in Spanish, from a promising and original perspective. A communion of electric guitars, traditional drums and resounding musical arrangements.
His lyrics: The spinal cord of a unique concept, where his realities and his fantasies, his fears and desires, coexist. The place to express his freedom, his spontaniety, and why not, his position on love.
His love lyrics are born from a point of view which is fresh, and as he says himself "so much has already been said about love that the challenge now is not to stop talking about love, but to have new perspectives to do it".
Alicastro was born two decades ago in Colombia and finds refuge in music at a very early age. From classic piano to a striking electric guitar and between rock & roll albums and old boleros he learned to play from Los Visconti to U2, as well as Sabina, Metallica and even Grupo Niche, in the hot musical stage that is his birth city: Cali.
A frustated love taught him to write "up to that point I would play what I heard in the radio and in albums, but when love hit me in the chest so hard my guitar learned to speak another language: my language". Among the concert halls and the bars, music school and the rock concerts Alicastro started to define his artistic profile with one foot in the classroom and the other out on the streets. This cocktail of influences added to his never ending passion for different musical instruments and gave him the tools needed to learn to portrait the honesty of his music with his own colors.
His band Legend Maker went beyond Colombia and introduced itself in the international market, making a name for itself in the world rock scene. Along with his band he went on several tours and great festivals which formed Alicastro’s personality and his tireless pledge to his public.
His search took him north and landed him in Miami, where he faught to find his own destiny, and after many years of following his dream of recording his first album as a solo artist, it became a reality through Sony BMG. Alicastro’s Todo Vale, an album filled with stories and emotions, overflowing with creativity and talent, was released October 10, 2006.
Now a permanent Miami resident, Alicastro continues to write and has collaborated with other peer writers such as Donato Poveda, Melina León, Jerónimo Mansur (Xeronimo) and Germán Ortiz. He is presently working on his second album, for which so far he has collaborated with George Noriega, Desmond Child and Itaal Shur.
